Welcome to the Colorful World of Virginia Tobacco!
Hey there! I’m Pierre, and I’ve been itching to share a bit about Virginia’s tobacco story with you. Right here in front of me is an array of tobaccos, each boasting a unique hue (oops, there’s that word!). But guess what? They’re all part of the Virginia tobacco family, just treated with different TLC.
A Stroll Down Memory Lane
Let’s rewind to 1612 in Jamestown, Virginia. That’s when the original Virginia tobacco made its debut. Today, the most familiar face in the lineup is the yellow Virginia, often called “filler type.” It’s got thin leaves and a sunny disposition. But it hasn’t always been this way. Older varieties were a whole different color.
Next up, we have the red Virginia, also known as the “flavor type.” This one packs more punch with its ripe harvest, adding grassy and citrus notes to any blend. It’s like a little sunshine in your smoke!
From Hay to Delight
If you take a whiff of the filler type, it might smell a bit like… well, hay. But don’t judge a book by its cover! To transform these lovely yellow leaves into something special, we embark on the Cavendish journey. It’s not a type of tobacco; it’s a process. We start with a special Virginia, fermented like cigar tobacco, and then we steam it. Voila! The tobacco turns black and sweet as it becomes Virginia Cavendish.
More Than Meets the Eye
So, you might think we’ve covered the four Virginia types, but hold your horses! There’s a whopping 190 different tobaccos in the grand tapestry. Each one has its own charm and blends into the perfect symphony of flavors we all crave. I’d love to chat more over a cup of coffee about these delightful varieties.
Stay tuned for more tales from the tobacco world. I’ll be back before you can say ‘Virginia!’ Thanks for sticking arounthis
